Members enjoyed the pantomine Cinderella the first ever to be held in the Byre Theatre at St.Andrews
followed by high tea at Drumoig Hotel & Golf Club


Thursday 4th December, 2008 - Visit by Allardyce Healthcare

                                             

A visit from Graham Angus and Rosalid Mackintosh from Allardyce Healthcare who were giving advice on
the various types of powered wheelchairs and their suitability for use for different purposes dependant
on the users requirements. The picture shows Graham explaining to Les Woods how this up market
wheelchair operates and in a few minutes Les was off doing wheelies around the hall. This was followed
by the Christmas party with mince pies; shortie and cake etc.


Thursday 20th November, 2008 - Shopping Trip

                                 

Members and friends travelled to the shopping mall at Glenrothes for a spot of Christmas shopping
looking out for some great bargains before heading for high tea at St. Michael's Inn on the way home to Dundee
Everyone had a great day, good food and service and some presents for 25th December

Thursday 13th November, 2008 - Talk by David Torrie

                                        

David's talk entitled 'Desperate Dan Lives in Dundee" was excellent and well illustrated by slides
covering many of the D.C. Thomson comic publications going back to the earlyday's of the 1930's

Thursday 30th October, 2008 - Halloween Party

                                     

Hubble Bubble toil and trouble and the club celebrated with a party with Peter & Wilma's daughter providing
a superb witch for the members to guess the name, but unsuccesfully so, but all the names were put into a hat
and Alice Smyth came out the winner. Christine led a hangman game and Sheila & Margaret got them into the
mood with a trick of treat bag of goodies.

Thursday 23rd October, 2008

Demonstration of Tai Chi by Margaret Yule [Club Treasurer] which they fully participated in whether
it was opening the chest or pushing the clouds they all found there are numerous exercises all helping
to improve the mind and/or the body whether you do them in the sitting position or standing up.
Margaret was ably assisted by Alice and Mabel.

Thursday 16th October, 2008

Talk entitled "Energy Savings by Ian Traynor, from Dundee EnergyEfficiency Project, part of the
City of Dundee DistrictCouncil. It was clear there were a number of way members might benefit
from advice/help from Ian's unit and Ian will be returning to drop off leaflets for distribution to
members.

Tuesday 7th October, 2008 - Stroke Awareness Week

                       

           Members of the Dundee Stroke Recovery Club manned the stand at Dundee's Ninewells Hospital in
          support of the Stroke Awareness campaign being highlighted this week. They were joined by Clare
          Burt and Anne-Marie Jackson who are both Stroke Liaison Workers. Both Clare and Anne-Marie were
          offering members of the public to have their height, blood pressure and weight taken as part of the
          on going campaign.

Thursday 25th September Tea & Chat

                                      

Thursday 18th September talk by Dr Alex Doney

                                      

The Club were given a talk entitled "Latest Developments in Stroke Care in Tayside"
and were also given a demonstration of the  Trans Cranial Doppler instruement
used as a diagnostic tool by Dr Alex Doney, Consultant Ward 4 at Ninewells Hospital.
Maureen Crighton presided and a vote of thanks was proposed by Sheila Stewart.


Thursday 4th September talk by George Tadden   

                                           

The Club was given a talk entitled "A walk in the past 1947" by George Tadden,
a club member. Whilst the talk centred on on the old shops and businesses in
the Wellgate and the Overgate area and in those days if you lived in the Wellgate
area everything you needed was only a short walk away, with the exception of a doctor's.
Maureen Crighton presided and a vote of thanks was proposed by Cathie Quinn.

Thursday 28th August talk by Sandy Turriff

                                   

The Club were given a very colourful  tak entitled "Getting the best out of your Garden"
by Sandy Turriff of Broomfiled Nurseries. After the talk the exhibits which Sandy had
brought to illustrate his talk were raffled off to raise mony for the MacMillan Nurses.
Sheila Stewart presided and a vote of thanks was proposed by Margaret Yule the
clubs Treasurer.

Summer outing 16th June, 2008

A great day was had by all on the drive round by Arbroath, Montrose and Brechin with a stop at the
Brechin Castle centre. A walk around the beautiful shop and a pause for coffee/tea and a snack before
heading for
Forbes of Kingennie  for high tea and for what can only be described as an excellent meal
before heading back to Dundee.  The Club hired the specially adapted coach from Smith's of Coupar
Angus and with a great help from Kenny loading and unloading those who had wheelchairs was made
with great ease.

Tesco Collection Friday 6th & Saturday 7th June, 2008. The two raised £794.36 for club funds including a
£100 anonymous donation. We are very grateful to the staff and customers at Tesco Extra, Kingway for
their generosity and also to the anonymous benefactor.

Thursday 5th June talk by Gillian Munro

                                          

Rev. Gillian Munro, Head of Department of Spiritual Care, Tayside NHS  in deep
discusion with Christine and Sheila following her very enlightened talk entitled
“Caring for the Whole Person” Sheila Stewart presided and a vote of thanks
was porposed by Cathie Quinn.

Carpet bowls held on 24th April, 2008 led by Jim Crighton the church elder ably assisted by his
wife Ann, who also brought along some delicious buttered pancakes.

Some of the members/friends who attended the 2nd lunch on 17th April at the Dundee College
Training Retuarant where 2nd year students expertly served a delicious 3 course meal using
